Maytag Neptune Burnt Resistor - R11 Resistor

You have a Maytag Neptune and it is not spinning out your clothes and you notice the door is not locking. What happens in most cases is the original door latch wax motor has failed. Maytag redesigned the original brown tipped wax motor and the new design has a black tip. See www.neptunehelpsong.com for a helpful video I created.

The wax motor is only on the timer knob based Neptune's such as the MAH3000, MAH4000, MAH5500A and the 2000 Stackers. The commercial Neptune's with timer knobs are also affected and what happens is the wax motor starts drawing too much current and then the Q6 triac on the machine control board overheats and can short out internally. A triac is an electronic switch that supplies 120 VAC to the wax motor. Once the triac shorts out it will typically back feed 120VAC and burn the R11 resistor. See photo below for the new black tipped wax motor.

In most cases the R11 will be burnt. In rare cases the Q6 opens internally which will cause the symptoms of no door locked light and no spin and R11 is not burnt.

Once you discover that your R11 resistor is burnt STOP using machine to prevent further damage to control board. I have a video at www.neptunehelp.com that shows you what to do next and how to bypass the spin enable switch so you can get some laundry washed while you wait for your STAGE 1 Q6 R11  repair kit with new wax motor.

I hope you found this post helpful.
