I have a Maytag front load Neptune MAH5500BWW problem

Q: Hi. I have the MAH5500B washing machine. My wife called in a panic and said the LCD panel displayed the LR code. I read 120V ac at the receptacle. I read 120V ac at terminals 1 and 3 on connector P6 at the machine control panel. I ran the Quick Service Cycle and everything seems to function except the tub does not spin. Checking across the 10 amp fuse on the motor control board yields 1 ohm resistance. I am thinking motor but I am not sure...any ideas?

A: Sure. You will have to replace the Motor control board and the motor with the new Maytag 12002039 motor conversion kit which may be available on ebay https://ebay.us/Aac7zW. If you already have the newer motor control board with plastic cover, you can try just replacing your motor control board. You can look at the photos on ebay and see if they look like your motor control board.

It takes about an hour to install. The original motor control boards have a high failure rate on the Neptunes so Maytag decided to redesign both the motor and motor control board.

Have you noticed your Neptune getting loud in spin cycle? If so, then your bearings are failing and will need to be replaced. The extra friction caused by the failing bearings can cause the motor control board to shutdown and/or fail. You can get new bearings and seal kit from www.neptunebearing.com. They also rent the special Neptune bearing tool to save you lots of time and effort and the rental incudes access to a video that shows you how to teardown machine, replace bearings using tool and install the seal kit. If you ask a service technician to come over you will receive a dose of sticker shock! They will quote you over $900 to quiet your machine again...

Until next time...

Maytag Neptune Front Loader Washer Mold Question

Here is another blogosphere question that an unhappy Neptune owner had made recently... Q: I have a maytag neptune front loading washer and there is mold on the front seal. I tried to get it off with bleach etc to no avail. Does Maytag have a replacement part I can get (that works better than the old one). The appliance is only 3 years old.... needless to say between the digital display I had to replace on the dryer and this issue. And the new rattling in the 3 year old dryer.. I am done with Whirlpool/maytag/ and product they build. I have a problem with my whirlpool fridge also...Their products are garbage and I would tell ANYONE to STAY AWAY !!!! A: Yes, you can replace the door boot. The part number is 12002533 and a link to purchase these is on my www.NeptuneWasher.com page.  You may also need the hose which can be found with this link https://ebay.us/xrwXtD via Ebay.

In addition, if you have a MAH3000 you can add a drain hose to the new boot. That way the water in the boot pocket can drain after every wash cycle which should help reduce the mold colony potential. Note: Some earlier MAH4000's also were shipped without the drain hose kit. Below is a picture of the door boot with drain. Below is a picture of a door boot drain hose retrofit. You actually drill out the center of the nipple which allows the water to drain back into the outer tub. As for the quality of some manufactures you listed above... I occasionally do searches on the Internet for other front loaders and I see folks who have problems with other manufacturers, too. Let's face it... Our appliances work very hard and there are a lot of environmental factors that play into how long your machine will last that is really beyond the control of any product manufacturer.

I know... The grass is always greener on the other side... but the fact is you own a Maytag Neptune and the good news is that the issues are posted on my blog over time and they are what they are. The three main issues of the earlier Neptunes are the door latch wax motor, moldy door boot and the motor/ motor control board combo reliability.

I will now add a forth issue to the list and it is a wear issue and that is the bearings. Unfortunately, Maytag does not have part numbers assigned to the bearings so service technicians are going to leave you a $900 quote to fix your Neptune bearings. They will want to transplant the whole outer tub which runs about $450 by itself! Fight back and replace your bearings yourself with the help of http://www.neptunebearing.com/page4.html. If Shirley in the video can do it... so can you! You can even rent the Neptune Bearing Tool Kit which really reduces the time you are replacing the bearings and there is an awesome step by step video that shows you how to take the Neptune apart, replace bearings and install the seal kit.

The bearing failure victim in the video is the standalone Neptune but the stacker bearing job is not that much different. Once these four issues are taken care of you will be the proud owner of a happier Neptune front loader! Lastly, don't forget to sign up for the Neptuner list so you will be kept up to date with more Neptune information and other valuable tips as they happen.

Another Maytag Neptune bites the dust...

I hope you liked my installation of the Kenmore Elite washer and dryer...

Now, let's get back to the Maytag Neptune issues! Here is a request taken from the webosphere...

"I have a Maytag Neptune MAH4000AWW that shuts off after the wash cycle. If the start button is pushed sometimes it will finish the cycle, some times it will only run a short time and need to push start button again, also the softner doesn't dispense when this happens. Where do you think the problem is?"

If it is a Neptune... It could be a couple of issues causing this shutdown. First, check out www.neptunehelp.com for info on the defective 12002535 door latch wax motor fiasco. Next, check the lower motor control board for a blown fuse or overheated components.

If you have either then your motor control board has let the smoke out. You will learn that when electronic devices let the smoke out all control and motion stop! See the disassembly photos from yours truly.

Tony Tool substitute?

One of my customers who rented the Tony Tool offered a suggestion for the PVC knock out plug. He smashed his fingers using the PVC knock out plug because it is too short for his liking. It turns out he made a new front bearing knockout tool using 1 1/2 pipe and fitting. He even sent the contraption back with the tony tool kit so I took a photo of it compared to the Tony Tool knock out plug.

It looks like it has about 2 more inches to work with. Who says bigger isn't better? I was surprised because this is the first complaint I've received for this tool kit. Everyone else praised the tool kit and how much time it saved them.

If your Maytag Neptune is starting to squeal while in high speed spin I would recommend replacing your bearings as soon as you can. You want to catch them before they separate which makes the bearings much more difficult to get out because the Tony Tool relies on the inner bearing race to pull it out.

To purchase the Neptune bearings, seal kit and Tony Tool rental point your browser to http://www.neptunebearing.com/

If you have not replaced your door latch wax motor yet you need to check out http://www.neptunewaxmotor.com/ to see if your Neptune is affected by this defective part that will run $450.00 to repair if you bother the lonely ole' Neptune repair guy!

Until next time...

steve jobs heart attack?

I heard this was not true... Where do these reports come from? Anyway.... If you own (or know of anyone who owns) a Maytag Neptune front load washer please check out www.neptunewaxmotor.com for important reliability information that could cost you $450.00 to repair. It involves the defective 12002535 door latch wax motor that can be replaced and prevent the machine control board failure.

See www.neptunebearing.com for information that could save you $900 when your Neptune bearing starts to fail. There is even a effort and time saving tool kit you can rent to reduce the bearing replacement time considerably. When your machine sounds like a jet taking off in spin cycle then it is time to replace the bearings and 12002022 seal kit.

Is the Tony Tool rental available in Canada?

Since I started renting the revolutionary Maytag Neptune bearing replacement tool, the Tony Tool, I have received a number of requests to ship the Tony Tool kit to Canada.

Presently, I only offer the tool kit rental to the United States since the tool kit would have to pass customs and a duty would have to be paid for the $425 value both ways?

Does Canada have an duty exemption process for tools crossing the border that will be returned? The other issue is the transit time. It would take at least a week to get there which ties up the tool too long compared to the 2 - 3 days required with the Priority Mail here in the states.

It might be more time / cost effective for someone in Canada to offer the Tony Tool for rent? If you would like more information on the Tony Tool, see www.neptunebearing.com.

Taken from another Blogspot blog

I did not see a comment button on your blog Jeanne so I thought I would respond to your blog via my Maytag Neptune Washer blog.

"For the past 11 years, I've had a front loading clothes washer. I had a first generation Maytag Neptune until last week. Buying a new washer was not a planned household expense, but the old one had recently gotten REALLY LOUD, which meant it was starting to fail.

I was warned by a repair person that it would start to leak soon because a bearing needed to be replaced. After finding out that it would be $900 to repair it, it was apparent that it was time for a new washer. I replaced it with a Frigidaire Affinity. The reason I'm writing about this, is to share with anyone with a top loading washer, how little water a front loader uses, how gentle it is on what you're washing, and how much cleaner everything gets.

A top loader can use up to 40 gallons per cycle, but a front loader uses 7-10 gallons per cycle. An added plus with my new washer is that it sucks the water out of everything you washed so well, that it is now taking half the time to dry each load. It used to take 40-60 minutes in the dryer, per load, but now, using the same setting on the dryer, it takes about 20 minutes. Nice! Not only does my front loading clothes washers help with a lower water bill, an unplanned benefit will also be a lower natural gas bill due to less dryer use. Hi Jeanne Williamson... You could have fixed your Maytag Neptune for about $85.00. In addition, you can get the new bearing and seal kit from www.neptunebearing.com. They even rent the revolutionary Neptune Bearing Tool Kit which makes the bearing replacement about a hour or so job!

Don't forget to replace your door latch wax motor if you have a MAH3000, MAH4000, MAH5500A or a 2000 stacker series Neptune or your control board will be damaged. See www.neptunewaxmotor.com for details A.S.A.P.! Sorry you purchased a new machine at a great expense...

Please tell all of your relatives, family and friends about the Neptune bearing kit and the door latch wax motor information.

Neptune Bearing Tool Anouncement

I wanted to let all you Neptuners know that I just acquired another revolutionary Tony Tool to rent out.

This brings my fleet to six Tony Tools. By knowing this information when your Maytag Neptune bearings start squealing in spin cycle simply check out www.neptunebearing.com for the bearings, seal kit and the Neptune Bearing Tool Kit rental.

In the end, you will save a lot of money by not replacing your Neptune's expensive outer tub and even labor because the tool helps you complete the bearing replacement in about an hour or so!

A service tech will quote you between $900 and $1100 to replace your outer tub just because the seal and bearings are shot! Don't forget to change your door latch wax motor, part 12002535, if you have the MAH3000, MAH4000, MAH5500A or the 2000 stacker Neptune before your control board is damaged.

Every Neptune that shipped with the original wax motor will fail... See www.neptunewaxmotor.com for details.

Until next time...

Learn how to repair your Maytag Neptune front loader too!

Here is an email I received today:

"Hey, Jeffrey- Got the package Thursday, repaired and installed the board on Friday, works likes it never was broken. Thanks again for making this information, remedy, and yourself so accessible. People like you don't just make the world go 'round, they make its washers go 'round, too. Very best regards and a million thanks, Chris V. P.S. You might be hearing from me in the near future about the bearing kit..."

Chris just finished up repairing his Maytag Neptune front loader with my R11 & Q6 + 12002535 wax motor repair kit. His Neptune failed due to the defective door latch wax motor (Maytag part number 12002535). Every Neptune that shipped with a door latch wax motor will fail and blow the machine control board.

See www.neptunewaxmotor.com to see if your Neptune will fail. You can also repair your Neptune bearings, too, thanks to my Neptune bearing and seal kit. Plus I offer the Neptune Bearing Tool Kit for rent to really save you time. See www.neptunebearing.com for details and you can watch the free video on how to change your bearings.

I'm ready to explode!

I wanted to post to my Neptune blog and finish up some last minute tasks and then I will turn off my computer. I promise…

I usually don’t find myself taking a break because I have so much to do. It seems there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done. When you wear the sales, purchasing, shipping, tech support hats for a small company (plus I also have a 40 hour full time manufacturing Engineering position during the day, spouse, 3 children, 3 ,6 and 19 years old) the time seems to fly by and everything does not get completed.

Don’t get me wrong… I enjoy running my Maytag Neptune parts company. People often ask me how did you get involved with the Neptune washer? Here's my confession... Actually, I kinda accidentally fell into it when a co-worker had a problem.

Her innocent Neptune failed to spin the clothes and she had a repairman come over to look at her Neptune. He quoted her $450 to replace the machine control board and door latch wax motor. She got frantic and told him to get lost and that she would take the control board to a guy at work to look at.

That guy was me… I looked at the board… R11 was fried. After investigating and doing some research I found that there were a lot of R11 & Q6 burns happening. So after I repaired her control board I put together the R11 and Q6 repair kit. This was almost 3 years ago. Side note: I designed a home nite lighting system I am working on to get to market and it seems the Neptune repair kit business has kept me so busy that I don’t have time to work on the lighting system. I absolutely love this concept and would love to see it in every home because it offers safety, security and convenience. Maybe I will plug the system in a later post… so stay tuned.

You could imagine that while helping Maytag Neptune owner’s with the door latch problem I started to get more questions like can you get other Neptune parts, what would cause such and such to happen, etc. It snowballed from there.

Now, I offer replacement machine control boards, motor conversion kits, door boots, every Neptune part at very good prices since I have low overhead. For example, I sold over 1,000 wax motors (part #12002535) in 2007 alone!

Recently, I partnered up with Tony Yeager, who created the “Tony Tool” which is designed to remove and install the Neptune bearings. This tool kit runs $425 and is designed for service techs. I had the idea of tool rental so I asked Tony if I could purchase a tool kit to rent out to Neptune owners. He reluctantly did so and now I have a fleet of Tony Tools helping Neptune owner’s save time and money replacing their bearings. Tony has put together a fabulous 13-minute video that shows exactly how to take machine apart, replace bearings…

I was selling the Neptune bearing & seal kits just fine before offering the Tony Tool. Mechanically inclined folks were using pipes and hammers to get the bearings out. Now, with the tool kit almost anyone can change his or her Neptune bearings. Check out www.neptunebearing.com

I plan to keep adding new services to the Neptune business because I believe in continuous improvement and diversification. I also look for ways to improve efficiency as I am a one-person company and need to reduce the time spent on tasks.

I hope you enjoyed this post as I revealed where I came from and maybe I will reveal how the Target Security company name came about in a future post. Have a safe and great 4th.!

Until next time...

Happy Father’s Day!

This one goes out to all of the fathers out there... including myself!

I read where Father’s Day was created way back in 1909 which is before any commercial greeting card companies existed… I assumed the greeting card or flower industry created Father’s Day so they could increase their sales at this time of year.

Sonora Smart Dodd is the brainchild behind Father’s Day when she was grown and married. Her mother had died while giving birth to her and her dad raised her and her four siblings on his own. You have to remember that back then most widowed fathers would have given their offspring to other relatives to raise.

Spokane Washington held the first Father’s Day observance the following year. By 1924, the custom had spread throughout the country, and Calvin Coolidge made the first presidential proclamation in support of Father’s Day. President Richard Nixon made Father’s Day permanent in 1972, nearly 60 years later, when he requested that Congress pass a joint resolution making the third Sunday in June a National Day of observance in honor of fathers everywhere.

Here are some tips for a great Father’s Day.

1. Breakfast in bed

2. No ties please…

3. A handwritten gift certificate for a future event to share some time together

4. Create a scrapbook commemorating “Life With Father” over the past year

5. Put off the Maytag Neptune repair until next week

6. Your special ideas…

See http://www.neptunewaxmotor.com/ for details on repairing your Neptune front loader washer. I just updated the http://www.neptunebearing.com/ website with a free Neptune bearing replacement video you can watch.

In addition, I offer the special Neptune bearing puller / installer called the Tony Tool for rent to dramatically reduce the time it takes to replace your bearings. The bearing job takes about 1 to 1.5 hours using the Tony Tool.

Check it out tomorrow since it is Father’s Day…

Maytag Neptune service technicians are feeling left out

It seems that Maytag Neptune service technicians are feeling left out because they are offering Neptune front loader owners an outrageous quote to repair the Neptune bearings. It’s really not their fault… they are slowly finding out that Maytag misled them about replacing the expensive outer tub which has the new bearings pressed in for around $450 and that there is a better solution!

Who in their right mind would repair a Neptune when they get a quote to fix the bearings for $850 to $1100? They can go buy a new front loader for not much more than that…

For those service technicians who would rather make some money doing a bearing replacement via a reasonable time and materials quote I just put up an offer for you on my www.neptunebearing.com website.

Your customers will have a smile on their face when you show them the latest bearing replacement technique you employ as opposed to the outrageous outer tub replacement technique!

2021 Update: The Tony Tool is no longer available.

New Maytag Neptune bearing Site

Hi Neptuners! I wanted to inform every one that I have put up a new Maytag Neptune Bearing replacement site where you can order the Neptune Bearings and seal kit to keep your Neptune spinning quietly again.

The URL is www.neptunebearing.com. I also offer the Neptune Bearing Tool Kit rental for folks to borrow this fabulous tool that will really save you a lot of time when replacing your bearings.

This custom designed tool was designed for service technicians so I thought why couldn’t homeowners utilize it, too? As a matter of fact, yesterday I sent the first tool kit out to Missouri on its maiden voyage. I will talk more on the tool in future posts once I get feedback from the customers who used it… Jeff

Got The Maytag Neptune bearings out

"Finally got the bearings out. However it is clear to me you gotta take the tub completely out!

Pulled the outer bearing almost all the way out with the modified puller, pounded it out the rest of the way with a steel pipe, turned the tub around and pounded out the really bad inner bearing with a 2 inch pipe and my log splitter.

Hope this info helps someone."

Sounds like a lot of work... Maybe you should have read my Neptune Bearing ebook and video which is loaded with tips to help you get the bearings out... Oh yea... you do not have to take the outer tub out to replace the bearings ;>) Jeff

Go Danica Patrick!

Congratulations to Danica! What an accomplishment Danica has made setting records and all...

I wonder if Danica has a Maytag Neptune washer? If so, she better race over to http://www.neptunewaxmotor.com/ for a pitstop and replace the 12002535 door latch wax motor before her Neptune blows out...

In addition, bearings are as important on Indy cars as they are on her Neptune. We have a new replacement bearing and seal kit so your washer can spin as fast as Danica drives!
