Neptune Bearing Tool Kit Upgrade - We are Jamming!

www.neptunebearing.com – Due to Neptuner feedback a jam nut will be included with each Neptune bearing tool kit in case the round nut threads itself off the threaded rod. This will lock the round nut to the shaft. In most cases the Neptune bearing tool works flawlessly but we have had a recent issue so we are nipping it in the bud.

As always, I welcome feedback so I can keep improving the Neptune bearing replacement process.

Thank you,

Jeff Hartman

Maytag Neptune Bearing Replacement Tip

Maytag Neptune Bearing Replacement Tip

I received this email from a Tony Tool renter after replacing his Maytag Neptune bearings... Obviously, WD was watching the instructional DVD that comes with the Neptune bearing tool kit rental.

"Hey Jeff Your tool was mailed this morning. Let me know if you need a tracking #. What a great tool. I took longer to get the grease off the DVD player remote control, then fixing the Maytag............wd"

Tip: Place your remote control in a plastic bag to keep the grease off of it  :)

You can save time and effort by renting the Neptune bearing tool kit HERE.

If you own a Laundromat you can purchase your own Tony Tool at www.neptunekits.com as well as bulk bearing and seal kits. Heck, why not start your own side business replacing bearings for Neptune owners in your area? After you do... make sure you take some wax motors with you in your tool box and change those out as well as I am still selling plenty of my STAGE 1 Q6 R11 repair kits with wax motor to repair the MAH3000, MAH4000, MAH5500A and the 2000 stacker's which all have a timer knob. The digital Neptune's do not have the faulty wax motor issue.

How to make the Maytag Neptune bearings easier to replace

How to make the Maytag Neptune bearings easier to replace...

I just improved the Maytag washer bearing tool kit rental by adding a piece of emery cloth to it. After using the included 2” wire wheel to clean the front bearing seat area I would recommend using the emery cloth to smooth and even take down the bearing seat a smidgen. It turns out that the Neptune bearing hub is aluminum and when the rusted front bearing comes out it can distort the aluminum and make it difficult for the replacement bearing to go in. This is just one of the reasons why I recommend that the bearings be replaced as a preventative measure after the machine has reached 10 years or so. See Neptune Bearing Tip For more reasons to proactively replace the bearings and 12002022 seal.

When was your Maytag Neptune born you ask? See Neptune Born on Date

There have been situations when performing the Maytag Neptune bearing replacement where there have been ripples or ridges in the aluminum bearing seat area and these will surely stop the new bearing from fully seating or perhaps even starting in the case of a ridge on the front edge of bearing seat. I would carefully inspect the bearing seat before attempting to insert the new bearings and use the emery cloth to take them down.

The Neptune rear bearing does not have this issue in most cases because it does not get wet like the front bearing does. I’ve had extreme cases where the washer was operated for a long period of time before the bearings were replaced and the rear bearing was rusted and actually fell apart when using the tony tool to pull them out. These Neptune washer repairs are more difficult but can be corrected by using a rotary cutting tool with cutting wheels to cut a slot in the bearing race and then use a drift or chisel to knock it out. Typically, the rear still bearing looks new but you should replace it anyway.

Maytag Neptune Front Loader tub bearing replacement tip

Maytag Neptune Front Loader tub bearing replacement tip

If your Maytag Neptune front loader is at least 10 years old I am highly recommending that you replace your tub bearings and seal proactively and let me explain why.

Eliminate the #1 Tony Tool challenge which is getting the rusted front bearing out…
As you know… I rent the specially designed Tony Tool to Neptune owners to assist them when changing their bearings and seal and I will tell you the number one challenge when changing the bearings is getting the front bearing out. In the past, Neptuner’s only replaced their bearings after the machine sounds like a jet taking off because the seal has leaked water into the bearings. What happens next is that rust forms between the front bearing outer race and the aluminum bearing housing making the front bearing difficult to extract. If you replace the bearings before they rust… the front bearing will come much easier with less stress to the machine. The tool kit rental comes with a pair of snap ring pliers, 2" wire wheel, extra bearing spacer and emery cloth as well as the bearings and 12002022 seal kit. A DVD is included that shows you how to disassemble your Neptune, swap bearings and install the seal kit. You can order the tool kit rental at Neptune Bearing.  Go down about half way and click where is says " Click HERE to read the tool rental agreement & order. Once the tool rental agreement opens up then there will be an Add to Cart button on the left side. Click on the Add to Cart button and you will be taken into PayPal's secure server to complete the payment.

Prevent spinner support (shaft) damage…
In some Neptune bearing failure cases the spinner support shaft was damaged because a bearing hung up and that caused a groove in the shaft so it had to be replaced at $89.00. The upfront cost for a new spinner support is $129 delivered via UPS Ground but I allow you to send the 12002022 seal kit back with the tool kit rental for an additional $40 refund because the spinner support arrives with a revised lip seal so you won’t need the 12002022 seal kit I sent you with the tool kit. The $40 seal kit refund takes the $129 down to $89. See Spinner Support to order a new spinner support.

The tool rental queue is lower than usual so you will get it quicker…
I will admit that the Neptune bearing tool kit rental queue is low right now which means that you will get a tool kit quicker than usual and that is a good thing. In the past I would have anywhere from 8 to 15 people in the queue with all of the tool kits out in the field. However, it is less critical in your case because your machine is not down and you are being proactive.

You can control washer downtime by replacing your bearings proactively…
Another benefit being proactive is that you control the washer downtime. You can do all of the laundry before you start the disassembly so there is less pressure to complete the bearing swap out. If your bearings fail and there are a large number of Neptuner’s in the queue that will delay you receiving the tool kit and then that would mean visits to the Laundromat or relative’s houses to do your laundry.

Take the time to really clean your Neptune while you have it apart…
Does your Neptune smell funky? I get lots of feedback from Neptuner’s and they tell me that they took extra time to really clean out their Neptune while they had it apart to freshen it up. There are simply areas that you cannot get to and properly clean until you disassemble the machine. From there, you can start a regimen of using the Affresh tablets or other front load cleaning product to help prevent the buildup of smelly gunk and keep your machine smelling better. You may also consider replacing the door boot while you change your bearings and seal. You can order one for $49.00 when your rent the tool kit.

Other parts you may want to replace while your Neptune is disassembled…
To wrap it up... Don’t forget that you can also get the new Neptune belt for $26.00 and the new door boot for $49.00 from the Neptune Bearing order form. If you take machine apart and decide your belt still looks good then just send it back with the tool kit unopened for a $26 refund. If you have a timer knob then you will want to make sure that you replace your door latch wax motor before it fails. Order extra wax motors for only $12 when you rent the tool kit!

Top 5 reasons to proactively change your Neptune front loader bearings.
1. #1 tool kit rental challenge is eliminated as the front bearing will come right out

2. Prevent potential damage to the spinner support

3. The Neptune bearing rental queue is very low right now

4. Totally prevent unexpected downtime and Laundromat visits

5. Funky Smelling Neptune’s can be really cleaned out when they are disassembled

Slightly off topic today with portable Generators

Hi Neptuners!

It seems that we rely on our homes to be energized with electricity to run all sorts of time and labor saving devices.

What happens when your power line is severed during an ice storm or a car collides with a utility pole?

I asked myself the same question and decided to be prepared. I recently purchased a propane generator. Actually, it was a Christmas gift for myself. ;-) It is a 3,500 watt model, single phase 120 VAC. I figure it will run the furnace (natural gas), fridge, freezer, sump pump and some lighting. It uses the standard grill type propane tanks and should run about 9 hours at half load.

Once I received it... I filled the oil (.6 qt.) up and hooked up the propane tank and fired it up. I was impressed with how quiet it was. How useful is a generator just sitting there? Not very... I also purchased a 30 amp, 120 VAC inlet box, 10 ft. 10-3 generator hook up cable, the Square D breaker panel generator interlock kit, 30amp 2 pole breaker, 15/15 tandom breaker, 10 ft. 10-2 w/gnd romex wire and misc. hardware.

I plan to install all of the components during my holiday break until Jan 4th! I will shoot some video for you to see like I did for the DVD duplicator I purchased last month. The DVD duplicator has produced about 50 mini DVDs, 35 CD's and so far has done a great job for me so if you need to do some CD or DVD duplication check out the DVD Duplicator site I put up.

I also put up a quick generator site you can check out, too. I love putting up websites... can't you tell!

If you would like to put up some websites I am putting together a training class to teach folks how to put up websites step-by-step. Contact me at neptunewasher@gmail.com if you're interested in putting up websites.

As always, if you have a Maytag Neptune with a timer knob... check out Neptune Help Song for a video that explains the faulty door latch wax motor issue.

Maytag Neptune Bearing Tony Tool - Testimonials

Maytag Neptune Bearing Tony Tool - Testimonials

Ok, I have to just pass these along... Here are a couple of Neptune owners that recently rented the Tony Tool and saved over $700 by replacing their bearings!

#1
"Just wanted you to know the tonytool worked great. Neptune washer is up and running again. Received tonytool on monday sept 28 repaired washer on tuesday sept 29 mailed tonytool back wednesday morning sept 30 by priority mail. I was considering scraping the washer before seeing your site. The bearing replacement job is nothing a person with average mechanical skills can't do. Thanks for all your help"

Curtis F.

#2
"The Tony Tool system is superb. The installation process went forward without a problem. The tool worked flawlessly. The additional tools like the snap ring pliers and wire brush were nice touches. The DVD step by step instructions made reading instructions unnecessary. Although I’d worked on old style Maytags before, the Neptune was new to me. Even so, I completed the whole job including clean-up in less than 2 hours. All the parts needed were included; nothing was overlooked. I’d definitely do business with you guys again! Thanks."

Mark Baker

As you can see the Tony Tool is the solution for your 'Out of Control' Neptune bearings... The Tony Tool is available at www.neptunekits.com along with bulk bearing and 12002022 seal kits.

Don't forget to change your 12002535 door latch wax motor when you have it apart... All of the Neptune front loaders with timer knob run the risk of damaging R11 and Q6 on the machine control board. See www.neptunehelpsong.com for the cool video that explains the issue.

Maytag Neptune Bearing Update - Tony Tool Rental

Maytag Neptune Bearing Update - Tony Tool Rental

As of August 14, 2009, all Neptune Tony Tool rentals will get a pair of snap ring pliers included with the rental. This benefit will help those who don't have the snap ring pliers. I've received feedback from tool renters that stated they had to go out and purchase this tool to get the snap ring off. Not anymore...

Please don't forget to wear safety glasses because the snap ring may shoot across the room when you remove it and it is better to be safe than sorry.

The Tony Tool rental also includes the bearings, 12002022 seal kit and 14 minute DVD that shows the disassembly, bearing change and the seal kit installation.

To order the Neptune Bearing Tony Tool rental go to Neptune Bearing.

Maytag Neptune Front Load question - Water still in tub

Maytag Neptune Front load - Here is a question I get a lot:

Q: I have a Maytag Neptune that doesn't drain. It spins the water out of the clothes but the bottom of the machine has enough water in it that you can hear it when you turn the drum.

A: Perhaps it is draining after all... The water you hear when you turn the inner tub is the balance ring which has liquid in it and it is part of the balancing system on the Neptunes. Now, if there is physically water visible in the inner tub then the pump is not getting all of the water out and it needs to be investigated. There are a number of issues that can cause this. One is a clogged tub drain or tub drain hose that feeds the pump. It could also be that the pump has debris in it or the drain hose in the back of machine is kinked... Whatever the reason it needs to be corrected or naturally your Neptune tub bearings will not last long.

The reason is because the tub seal is not designed to work against the water slinging in the tub during spin cycle. Once water get passed the seal it will get into the bearings and cause the lubrication to break down. The next thing you will notice is that the your Neptune will get louder in spin cycle where it sounds like a jet plane taking off. At this point you will want to replace the bearings and seal.

You can do it yourself and save lots of money. See http://www.neptunebearing.com/ for more information regarding the Neptune Bearing Tool Kit rental as well, which was designed to save you time and effort when replacing your Neptune bearings. It even includes video access that you can watch that shows how to disassemble your Neptune, replace bearings and install the seal kit. Until next time...

Maytag Neptune Washer - Bearing Spacer Question

Maytag Neptune Washer - Bearing Spacer Question:
I've been asked a few times lately regarding the installation of the new bearing spacer so I wanted to post the answer here. If you will look at the picture you will notice one end of the spacer is flat and the other end has a slight bevel.

The beveled end goes towards the rear of washer because you don't want the spacer rubbing the seal on the rear bearing.

If you have a Maytag Neptune front load washer check out Maytag Neptune Bearing for replacement bearings and the seal kit. When you notice your Neptune getting loud in the high speed spin cycle is when it is time to change your bearings. You don't want to wait too long to change them because the bearings will eventually fall apart and that will make it more difficult to get them out of there.

One last thing... If your Neptune front loader has the timer dial, you need to see if you have the faulty door latch wax motor. See Maytag Neptune wax motor for a video that explains the issue.

Until next time...

Maytag Neptune Bearing - I Shipped A Tony Tool to Canada

Maytag Neptune Bearing Update - I just shipped my first Tony Tool rental kit to Canada via UPS Ground. The location I shipped it to was Glen Huron, Ontario Canada.

It is no surprise because there is a large number of Maytag Neptune owners in Canada that I have sold the Q6 & R11 repair kits to. I have received a number of tool rental requests but I declined to ship the tools to Canada for a number of reasons...

1. The UPS Ground shipping time will be greater than the Flat Rate Priority Mail I use for the domestic orders which ties up the tool for longer. It weighed 15 pounds which tells me David is getting the solid steel knock out plug...

2. Customs - Getting the tools through customs was concerning because these were rental and we should not have to pay duty on them when you declare the value of $425.00.

3. I also included a bearing spacer just in case David's spacer is damaged or corroded.

4. DVD - I don't know if the Tony Tool DVD will play in Canadian players because DVDs have a country code.

5. Shipping expense - The UPS Ground shipping expense was about $35.00 USD Verses $15.55 for Flat Rate Priority Mail shipping in the States. I will have to hold back more of the refund to cover the additional shipping expense to Canada or get a higher deposit up front.

To rap it up... Before we get excited about renting the Neptune Bearing Tony Tool to Neptune owners in Canada let's see what happens with David's Neptune and see if I get the tool back from Customs, etc.

In the meantime, if you are in the States you can order your Tony Tool rental at www.neptunebearing.com.

Maytag Neptune Bearing Tony Tool Update

Maytag neptune bearing information - The Maytag Neptune Bearing Tony Tool has been improved! Could this be a dumb bell?

I believe it could be! But more importantly... The original PVC knockout plug has been upgraded to solid steel! The biggest issue with the Tony Tool has been the PVC Knockout plug because it would crack near the top lip and folks who rented the tool kit at www.neptunebearing.com would call or email me apologizing and offering to buy a new one. I would just explain to them that it was not an issue and don't worry about it.

I just figured that you Neptune owners were taking your frustrations out on the knock out plug like a stress relieving squeeze toy. But no, Tony mentioned that his personal PVC knock out plug was cracked too and that it still worked great for getting the front bearing out.

There is a danger when using the steel knockout and that is if it falls down it can damage components on the floor of your Neptune washer because it is so heavy... so I decided to keep the much lighter PVC knockout plugs with the tool kits.

Until next time...

It looks like the Neptune Bearing Song votes are in...

Here is the song update:

It looks like the Neptune Bearing Song was Pretty Good according to your votes.

We only had one not impressed?

This particular song is on the www.neptunebearing.com site if you would like to hear it again...

There is another song in the works for the www.neptunekits.com site which is for Neptune service technicians. It is where they can purchase the Neptune Bearing Tool (Tony Tool) and bearings in bulk. If you talk to any technicians that suggest to you that you cannot change the bearings, send them there and educate them...

Don't forget when your Neptune Bearings start singin' and a screamin' you can replace your Neptune bearings and save lots of money!

What are they doing to that poor Maytag Neptune Front Loader?

What are they doing?

1. Winding up the spring to get the Neptune started?

2. Freeing the stuck tub?

3. Disecting the Neptune?

4. Adjusting the belt tension?

Actually, they are using the special Neptune Bearing Tool that can be borrowed at www.neptunebearing.com. The tool kit comes with the bearings, 12002022 seal kit and a DVD that shows you how to disassemble the Neptune front loader, replace bearings and install seal kit.

You don't have the use the tool kit... Folks have been changing their Neptune bearings using pipes, large hammer, threaded rod, large washers, patience, etc.

You can make replacing your Neptune bearings kid's play when using the Tony Tool.

Maytag Neptune Front Loader Washer Mold Question

Here is another blogosphere question that an unhappy Neptune owner had made recently... Q: I have a maytag neptune front loading washer and there is mold on the front seal. I tried to get it off with bleach etc to no avail. Does Maytag have a replacement part I can get (that works better than the old one). The appliance is only 3 years old.... needless to say between the digital display I had to replace on the dryer and this issue. And the new rattling in the 3 year old dryer.. I am done with Whirlpool/maytag/ and product they build. I have a problem with my whirlpool fridge also...Their products are garbage and I would tell ANYONE to STAY AWAY !!!! A: Yes, you can replace the door boot. The part number is 12002533 and a link to purchase these is on my www.NeptuneWasher.com page.  You may also need the hose which can be found with this link https://ebay.us/xrwXtD via Ebay.

In addition, if you have a MAH3000 you can add a drain hose to the new boot. That way the water in the boot pocket can drain after every wash cycle which should help reduce the mold colony potential. Note: Some earlier MAH4000's also were shipped without the drain hose kit. Below is a picture of the door boot with drain. Below is a picture of a door boot drain hose retrofit. You actually drill out the center of the nipple which allows the water to drain back into the outer tub. As for the quality of some manufactures you listed above... I occasionally do searches on the Internet for other front loaders and I see folks who have problems with other manufacturers, too. Let's face it... Our appliances work very hard and there are a lot of environmental factors that play into how long your machine will last that is really beyond the control of any product manufacturer.

I know... The grass is always greener on the other side... but the fact is you own a Maytag Neptune and the good news is that the issues are posted on my blog over time and they are what they are. The three main issues of the earlier Neptunes are the door latch wax motor, moldy door boot and the motor/ motor control board combo reliability.

I will now add a forth issue to the list and it is a wear issue and that is the bearings. Unfortunately, Maytag does not have part numbers assigned to the bearings so service technicians are going to leave you a $900 quote to fix your Neptune bearings. They will want to transplant the whole outer tub which runs about $450 by itself! Fight back and replace your bearings yourself with the help of http://www.neptunebearing.com/page4.html. If Shirley in the video can do it... so can you! You can even rent the Neptune Bearing Tool Kit which really reduces the time you are replacing the bearings and there is an awesome step by step video that shows you how to take the Neptune apart, replace bearings and install the seal kit.

The bearing failure victim in the video is the standalone Neptune but the stacker bearing job is not that much different. Once these four issues are taken care of you will be the proud owner of a happier Neptune front loader! Lastly, don't forget to sign up for the Neptuner list so you will be kept up to date with more Neptune information and other valuable tips as they happen.

No mail on Monday due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Hi Neptuners,

I just wanted to remind you that there will no mail service on Monday, January 19th, due to Martin Luther King Jr. day.

Unfortunately, this will slow down the Maytag Neptune Tony Tool rental program by one day...

I really appreciate the patience being displayed from the folks in the Tony Tool rental queue! I turn these tools as soon as I can and since I have recently added 5 more tools to my rental fleet the queue should get cleared out much quicker. I realize that when your Maytag Neptune starts sounding like a jet taking off you want to replace the bearings before something major fails. If you would like to replace your bearings goto http://www.neptunebearing.com/ and get in the tony tool rental queue. First come, first served...

I have been receiving a tony tool question lately and it is basically this: "Is there someone in my area that can replace my Neptune bearings using the Tony Tool?". So I got to thinking, if you have rented the Tony Tool and would like to help other Neptuners, please let me know. This is a way you can show folks how smart you are by using the Tony Tool and earn some cash, too

Another important Maytag Neptune issue is the 'my maytag neptune won't spin' or 'maytag neptune no spin' See http://www.neptunehelp.com/ for information on the famous no spin issue. Did you know that you could replace the door latch wax motor before it fails and prevent the control board R11 & Q6 failure? A service tech will quote you around $450 to fix this failure that Maytag should fix...

Sunday, December 7, 2008

I sold my first Maytag Neptune R11 Q6 repair kit + wax motor to Israel

On November 10th, 2008 I received an order from my www.neptunewaxmotor.com website from Ilana from Cochav Yair, Israel for the STAGE 1 Kit.

Wow! I thought... I did not know they had Maytag Neptunes in Israel?

Does anyone know how many Neptunes are in Israel?

Please tell everyone you know about the Maytag Neptune 12002535 door latch wax motor failure that will happen and cost $450 to have repaired. You can replace the door latch wax motor with the redesigned component.

Besides saving money... you will be preventing washer downtime. Thank You! Don't forget about the tonytool rental program. I have had a pick up in the bearing and seal kit orders and the tony tool rental recently.

Presently, I am running 2 weeks before I can get the tool kit out to you, I have asked Tony for two more tool kits but I have to wait for his next batch to be produced. He said it would be a week or so before he receives the tool kit order.

Until next time...
