Are You Making These Traffic and Marketing Mistakes? (SHMI)

Are You Making These Traffic and Marketing Mistakes?

Ask just about any online marketer on the planet if they have enough traffic, and I bet the answer is “no.” Even the marketers who’re pulling down the huge traffic numbers want more traffic. And the reason is pretty simple: because more traffic equals more customers, more sales and more cash. This traffic information is part of my Side Hustle Marketing Ideas (SHMI) series.

However, while most marketers want more traffic, there’s also a good chunk of marketers who’re making some deadly traffic mistakes. That’s right, they’re shooting themselves in the foot and settling for a trickle of traffic when they could be so much more.

Are you making these deadly traffic and marketing mistakes too? Find out by reading on…

Mistake 1: Cherry-Picking Traffic Methods

You’ve probably read a ton of books, blog posts, articles and other materials about getting traffic. Maybe you’ve even started developing a plan for which traffic methods you’re going to use and which ones you’re going to skip.

Hold up there for a second…

If you’re completely skipping a traffic method because you think or even know that it won’t work, then that’s one thing.

For example, trying to generate traffic from some decade-old, untargeted source like a “start page” exchange is pretty fruitless. If you read about this in some old traffic report then yeah… feel free to ignore it.

What I’m talking about are ignoring proven traffic methods that are sure to bring targeted traffic to your site.

For example:

·         You don’t feel like building a list or publishing a blog, because you don’t really feel like developing and committing to a publishing schedule.

·         You don’t want to get joint venture partners or affiliates, because you’re happier working alone.

·         You thumb your nose at social media, even though your target market is young and known to hang out on Facebook all day.

So what if there is a traffic method that you don’t really feel like doing? Then hire someone to do it for you. Because if you want to build a thriving business, don’t skip over a promising traffic method just because you don’t feel like doing it yourself.

Mistake 2: Not Being Consistent

Sometimes marketers start off really enthusiastic about driving traffic to their site.  They start running ads, doing content swaps, blogging, setting up a Facebook page, optimizing their pages for the search engines, setting up an affiliate program… and so on.

This goes on for a few weeks, and the traffic starts coming in at a nice clip. So when the marketer sees all the targeted traffic filling up his traffic logs, he diverts his attention and starts working on something else. Many marketers think that if they stop working on their marketing, that somehow the traffic will just keep coming in on its own.

Of course it doesn’t work that way.

Content swaps lose effectiveness as the content drops off the blogger’s front page.

Affiliates start to lose interest and go seek out other opportunities.

Facebook fans and blog readers drift away when they realize there hasn’t been any new content in a while.

The competitors in the search engines knock your pages out of the top spots.

And of course paid ads don’t bring in any visitors once you stop the campaigns.

So here’s the point…

If you want to keep the traffic not only coming in but building over time, you need to do something every day to increase your traffic.

For example, you may do one or more of the following every day:

·         Recruit new affiliates or joint venture partners. You might make it a goal to find five new partners before the week is out.

·         Send an email to marketing partners. At a minimum, you can send them new tools to help their promotions, such as new ads, blog posts and graphics. If you really want to get them hopping, then send out an announcement about an upcoming affiliate contest.

·         Post something on your blog, on someone else’s blog, or on social media. Or do all three. Aim for something that will engage readers and start up a discussion.

·         Create a viral video. This could be something funny, super-useful or even controversial. Then post it on social media and see if you get any traction.

·         Send an email to your list. Then make it a point to do this regularly, as the only way to build a good relationship with them is by sending your list engaging content on at least a weekly basis.

·         Start up a Facebook ad campaign. Just be sure to use the ad platform’s power tool to get your ad in front of as targeted an audience as possible.

And so on.

In short: Small steps on a consistent basis lead to big results over time.

And now the third mistake…

Mistake 3: Skipping the Tracking and Testing

Many marketers waste a lot of time and money chasing after advertising strategies that simply don’t work for them. Maybe they’re using ineffective ads or calls to action. Maybe their lead pages suck. Or maybe they’re even posting ads in places where they’re getting very little action.

Why on earth would someone keep throwing money and time at advertising that doesn’t work?

Simple: Because these marketers have no idea their advertising doesn’t work.

And you know what? Unless you are tracking and testing your ad campaigns, you too might be wasting a lot of money and time running lousy ads.

So what you need to do is start keeping careful track of what works and what doesn’t. You’ll need a tool to track and statistically test your ads and campaigns. You can find plenty of tools around, such as Google Analytics, or the open-source alternative at Piwik.com. Check your other tools, which may have built in tracking. One good example is your email service provider, as many of the big providers can track open and click-through rates.

Once you decide what you’re going to test, then be sure to test just one element of your ad campaign at a time. That way, you can be confident that any change in the conversion rate is due to that one element, rather than something else.

For example, if you’re testing the best time of the day to send emails – 9:00am or 9:00pm -- then you need to randomly split your list into two groups and send out the exact same email to both groups. If everything else about the emails is exactly the same, then you’ll know that any difference in conversion rate is due to the time it was sent out.

Conclusion

These three mistakes seem pretty simple, and yet you’ll face dismal amounts of traffic if you make these mistakes too. So be sure to test everything, diversify your traffic methods, and take consistent steps every day to build your traffic.

Of course the question is, what all should you be doing to build traffic? And another one: what is the best way to bring in targeted traffic?

Neptune MAH5500BWW Code OD

Neptune MAH5500BWW Code OD

Here is a series of emails between Ron and I regarding an issue he was having with his MAH5500BWW Neptune washer...

____________________________________________________________________________________

Jeff,

Trying to resolve issue where control panel shows code OD after running through complete wash cycle, but begins to leak water from bottom edge of door, and leaves water high in drum unless reset to spin cycle. Earlier code of ND proved to be false after removing pump and checking for any obstructions, then testing motor to ensure function. Door seems to be locked, but if wash cycle stops at code OD, the door can be opened with resulting flood of water from drum.

Is this caused by faulty lock, sensor, or control board failure?

Thanks

 Ron

____________________________________________________________________________________

Hi Ron,

Might be a couple of issues happening...

It sounds like the pump is working if it drains in a short amount of time.

I wonder why the water level is too high. There could be a water level issue that is allowing the tub to over fill.

For starters, I would try removing all the connectors on the circuit boards and re-seating them which can wipe the connector pins if there is any oxidation.

Have you located the tech sheet which should be in the top console area? There will be some diagnostics you can run to test the functions.

____________________________________________________________________________________

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I haven’t opened the top of unit yet. Thought the issue was going to be the pump with the original code “ND”. Will follow your advice below and then move onto tech sheet if still having problem.
Will let you know the results.

Ron

 ____________________________________________________________________________________

Hi Jeff,

Opened control housing and front of washer today. Pulled all connectors off, then pushed back on to pins in each case. Found no corrosion or debris on connectors or pins. All pin surfaces looked to be bright, not oxidized. Found tech sheet and used it for next steps. Did a continuity check on p3 &  P8 as suggested on tech sheet; continuity showed good.

Placed the washer into diagnostic test mode to see if I could get the door lock to do so and unlock. Pushing the button stated on the tech sheet produced no response for lock or unlock or give a code, as I pushed the door button inward and held it. However, once I fully assembled the front and reattached the door I reset the diagnostic mode and was able to get the door lock to engage and disengage with a satisfying click each time. The door seal appears to be in perfect condition and I checked the small hose from the door seal to drain and found no obstruction.

Next I followed the tech sheet instruction for reading the help codes stored in memory. I’ve listed them below with the number of times they were recorded. The only common denominator I see in the codes is “faulty control board”. When I inspected the control board there was no sign of broken solder, loose components, burned or charred connectors or components.
Codes in Memory                            Number of instances
01 No Drain                                                         3
03 Faulty Door Latch Sensor                        9
05 Faulty Unbalance Switch                         6
05 Faulty Unbalance Switch                         1
17 Faulty Door Switch                                     0
23 (can’t read my note)                                 3

Finally, we previously tried to run a quick load to test the door lock and seal, but had standing water in the drum with door pushed and leaking at bottom. We opened door to reduce water level, then set washer to spin to drain and retrieve load materials. When machine stopped, we pressed the stop button and all control panel lights went dark. We were working nearby and noticed that the washer powered up again and showed double-digit time in display. We pressed stop button again and all lights went dark.  Then washer powered up again and we hit stop, then pulled power cord. I’m pretty sure we caused some of the faulty door latch issues by opening the door and trying to proceed to different cycles without cancelling fully and going back to start.

Your thoughts on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Ron

 ____________________________________________________________________________________

Hi Ron,

First, the machine is either over filling or not draining properly if water is up to the door. Have you verified the discharge hose has good flow when pump should be running?

I would check to make sure the water level pressure switch has the hose going from bottom of outer tub to the pressure switch in the top console area. The hose may have a clog in it and that could cause over filling.

____________________________________________________________________________________

Hi Jeff,

Checked discharge hose and all other small hoses at top of machine, then double checked 90-degree hose from bottom of outer tub to pump which has water level pressure switch mounted to top of plastic frame which has pump and electronics attached, then twists into bottom pan of washer. All hoses were clear of any debris or small sediment.

Attempted to run a load of light clothing with resulting water level rising above inner tub and pressing door agape at bottom with water flowing onto garage floor and into base drawer. Pressed door tightly against seal and selected spin cycle. Pump evacuated all water from tub and flow from discharge hose was steady as it went into plumbing at wall.

Since no clog is present, it seems that the water level pressure switch may be the culprit. Have ordered part and hope to install Tuesday. Will let you know results. I could not identify hose going from bottom of outer tub to a pressure switch in the top console area on this model; MAH5500BWW. The only switches/valves in top console area seem to be related to the flow of water into the soap/bleach dispensers.

Ron

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Hi Jeff,

The water pressure level switch was the culprit. Replaced with factory part, ran test load without any problem. Repair complete.
Thank you for your advice and blog.

Ron

MGDE300VW1 Dryer F01 Error Code Repair kit

Hello,

A client sent an email asking about their Maytag MGDE300VW1 dryer that is displaying the F01 Error code. He wanted to know if the www.F01Error.com repair kit would help.

After years of operation the relay on the control board starts to wear out and it will get to the point where the relay contacts will get so worn the dryer will have trouble starting and will set the F01 error code. It is time to replace the relay which is what mostly causes the F01 error and it is in the kit. Don't replace your expensive control board... Simply replace the relay instead!

When I looked up his MGDE300VW1 dryer parts list it turns out that he has the W10174745 control board (# 52). So the answer is... Yes!  The F01 Error kit will help him.

WFW72HEDW0
WFW87HEDW0
WFW95HEXW2

I will add to the list as I discover new model numbers you don't want to own due to the fact you cannot change your bearings economically...

Another Washer You Do Not Want To Buy - WFW87HEDW0

www.washerbearings.com - I get this question all the time. I decided to turn it around so I can tell you which washers I recommend you don’t buy based on my experiences and save you some frustration and money...

Whether you’re shopping for a new or pre-owned washer online or picking one up off the curb you need to know which models you can easily replace the bearings and seal. Otherwise, it will be too expensive to repair. Visit the site above to see all of the models that we offer bearing and seal kits for and you will be good.

Today, we are looking at a Whirlpool WFW87HEDW0 front load washer that when the bearings fail you will not be able to cost effectively replace the bearings and seal because the two tub halves are glued together. For that reason I recommend that you don't buy them.

Check out the video and be on the lookout for more washers that you should avoid.

Have you been bitten by a bearing failure in the WFW87HEDW0 front load washer? Let me know in the comments.

Which washer and dryer should I buy - Here's one you don't want to buy

Otherwise, it will be too expensive to repair. Visit the site above to see all of the models that we offer bearing and seal kits for and you will be good.

Today, we are looking at a Whirlpool WFW72HEDW0 front load washer where the bearings failed after three short years of use. David, a technician in Florida called me and said that he could not replace the bearings and seal because the tub halves were glued together and you have to purchase the whole tub assembly for around $700!

Checkout the video and watch for more washers that you should avoid.

Maytag Neptune No Spin Issue Video - What to do

Hi Neptuner,

I just finished up a new video for explaining what to do when your Maytag Neptune Front load washer will not lock the door and spin the clothes and the R11 resistor on the machine control board is burnt...

Until next time...

Neptune Bearing Tool Kit Upgrade - We are Jamming!

www.neptunebearing.com – Due to Neptuner feedback a jam nut will be included with each Neptune bearing tool kit in case the round nut threads itself off the threaded rod. This will lock the round nut to the shaft. In most cases the Neptune bearing tool works flawlessly but we have had a recent issue so we are nipping it in the bud.

As always, I welcome feedback so I can keep improving the Neptune bearing replacement process.

Thank you,

Jeff Hartman

Top Thrill Dragster Ride Pushes How Much Horsepower?

Here is a physics Question for you... How much horse power does it take to accelerate a 7 ton train from zero to 120 mph in less than 4 seconds?

I recently visited Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio and rode the Top Thrill Dragster and what a rush it provides!

If your washing machine sounds like the Top Thrill Dragster taking off then it is time to replace your bearings! Visit my www.washerbearings.com for answers.

Thank you and enjoy!
