MAH7500AWW Bearing and Tub Seal – How To Replace them and save money

MAH7500AWW Bearing and Tub Seal – How To Replace them and save money

If you own a MAH7500 and it sounds like a jet plane then it is time to focus on your bearings and tub seal. If you bother a Maytag service technician they will want at least $950 to repair your Neptune or even suggest that you junk machine. You don’t really want to scrap machine because you can save money by replacing your Neptune bearings and tub seal and be washing clothes again. The reason they quote so much is because they will want to replace the large outer tub which runs over $500 alone!

The 12002022 seal kit contains two seals. The earlier lip seal and the revised lip seal. If you have the earlier lip seal (with plastic white spacer clip) you will need to replace it with the new earlier lip seal in the kit. If you would like to use the revised lip seal you will have to purchase a new spinner support because its’ shaft is machined different. Here is a video I created for the 12002022 seal kit breakdown.

It should take about 1 – 5 hours depending on how much cleaning you need to do while you’re in there and no special tools are required. You could save time by renting the Tony Tool which pulls the rear bearing out first. You then knock the front bearing out and then after some clean up you use the Tony Tool to install the new bearings and spacer. The tool kit rental includes an extra bearing spacer just in case you need it.

Depending on how long your machine has sounded like a jet plane you may need to heat up the aluminum hub when extracting the inner or front bearing. The aluminum has a higher expansion coefficient than the steel bearing does so the bearing housing should expand more than the bearing does thus loosening it up. Just don’t over heat it since some of the heat guns can really get hot.

Another tip is to stabilize the outer tub by laying the Neptune on its front and placing 2x4’s, old towels, newspaper stack under tub to help keep it from bouncing around when you attempt to knock out the front bearing. Now would also be a good time to spray penetrating oil on the inner bearing since it is closer to horizontal. You can allow the oil to soak in overnight. You will also want to place plywood or equivalent under tub to catch the bearing when it is ejected out.

The good news is that you don’t have the faulty brown tipped wax motor in your door latch. Only the timer knob based Neptune’s have the wax motor which would fail and damage the Q6 triac and R11 and the upper control board. The digital Neptune models all use a solenoid to lock the door. See Neptune Help Song for a video that explains what happens when the original brown tipped wax motor fails.

I hope this was helpful to you and you save money by replacing your bearings and tub seal.

MAH6500AWW Bearing and Tub Seal – How To Replace

If you own a MAH6500 and it sounds like a freight train it is time to replace your bearings. If you bother Ole’ Lonely he will quote you at least $950 or suggest that you scrap machine. You don’t want to scrap machine because you can save money by replacing your Neptune tub bearings and seal and be washing clothes soon. Ole’ Lonely will want to replace your large outer tub which runs over $500 alone! You don’t need to replace the expensive outer tub.

There are two seals that are available in the genuine 12002022 seal kit. The earlier lip seal and the revised lip seal. If you have the earlier lip seal (with plastic white spacer clip) you will need to replace it with the new earlier lip seal in the kit. If you would like to install the revised lip seal you will have to replace your W10181639 spinner support because its shaft is machined different.

Neptune Bearing Replacement - How To

Neptune Bearing Replacement - How To

If you have a Maytag Neptune Front load washer there will come a time when it starts to morph into a jet plane or even a freight train..

Since you probably don't want a jet plane in your home you will want to replace your Neptune tub bearings and seal asap.

You can replace your washer bearings without the special Neptune bearing replacement tool or Tony Tool if you're handy with tools. The tool kit does save you time and effort when changing your bearings. The tool kit rental includes the tub bearings, 12002022 seal kit, bearing spacer, 2" wire wheel and step by step DVD. You can order the Maytag Neptune bearing and 12002022 Seal Kit HERE and it works on all solid door (no window) panel Neptune's.

You can find other washer bearing and seal kits HERE.

I hope this post was helpful.

Thank you,

Jeff Hartman

P.S. For other appliance parts you can visit www.washerbearings.com/parts get new replacement parts for your appliances.

Otherwise you can always use the Neptune Washer Back up Plan which is shown below...

Maytag Neptune Washer Seal Replacement - How to replace

Maytag Neptune washer seal replacement - If you notice your Maytag Neptune front load washer starting to sound like a freight train you should know that it is time... Time to replace your Maytag Neptune bearing and seal.

Although, you can rent the special Neptune bearing tool kit you can replace the bearings without it. The photo above shows the Neptune bearing and a revised lip seal, o ring and installation cup.

If you have the earlier lip seal you cannot install the revised lip seal because the spinner support shaft is machined different than the spinner support shaft that uses the revised lip seal. If you replace the Neptune spinner support it will come with the revised lip seal.

I would recommend having a large 8 pound hammer available just in case when replacing your Neptune tub bearings...

Let me know if you have any questions.

You can now spread your Neptune bearing replacement over 6 months, if needed

For my bearing and seal business I use PayPal, which accepts major credit cards, and they are offering an option when checking out for orders over $99, U.S. customers only, where you can get 6 monthly payments same as cash. So… if you've been putting off that bearing replacement now is the time for you to add more years to your Neptune’s life and spread the bill over 6 months with no interest.

See Neptune Bearing replacement and click on the PayPal banner on the left side for offer details.

If you decide to just purchase the Maytag Neptune Bearing and 12002022 Seal kit (not rent the tool kit) then you could add the door boot or belt so you exceed the $99 order amount to qualify. If you have an MAH3000, MAH4000 model you may want to order the bearing spacer just to have on hand in case yours is cracked or really corroded. If you decide to order a belt and don’t need it after inspecting your belt then simply send it back unopened for a refund. Don’t forget that a new bearing spacer is included with the Tony Tool kit rental so you don’t need to order one.

If you decide use the 6 months option just make sure you make payments to avoid any interest charges.

Other options if your Neptune washer needs bearings:

Use a local laundromat until you can save enough for bearing replacement
Buy a used unit on Craigslist
Visit relatives, neighbors and wash your clothes
Use washing board. See Neptune backup plan

Leave me a comment if you have another suggestion on where to launder your clothes until your machine can get fixed.

TIP: When sorting clothes check the pants pockets for loose change that can get into the pump and cause draining problems.

I also offer other washer bearing and seal kits...  See Washer Bearings for more information.

Until next time...

Brody Stevens and Little Esther hangin with the Neptune Man

Here is a recent photo of me with Little Esther, Tonia, Brody Stevens. I bought a Groupon for a local show in the Columbus, Ohio area and it included a photo op. I thought... What the heck… Let’s get my photo taken with a couple of well known comedians. I will tell you more about Tonia later. She is creating a helpful website that will come in very handy for a lot of people.

Speaking of websites… If you have a washing machine… I offer special bearing and seal kits for when they start to get loud which usually indicates a tub bearing failure. I even rent a cool tool for the Maytag Neptune front load washers to help you save time and effort when replacing Neptune tub bearings. You can visit my main site at www.washerbearings.com which branches out to the different models.

Since I specialize in the tub bearing and seal kits you order the bearing and seal kits only from my sites and you can order other appliance parts by visiting www.washerbearings.com/parts to order replacement parts. Just have your model and serial numbers handy to help them look you your replacement parts.

I'm now officially called the "Neptune Man" and here is my song Vicky made for me http://neptunewasher.blogspot.com/2012/11/hey-neptune-man-song.html

Until next time…

Neptune Washer Bearing – Special tool saves time and effort

Neptune Washer Bearing – Special tool saves time and effort

Maytag Neptune bearing noise

It is obvious that your Neptune’s bearings are failing because your Maytag Neptune sounds like jet taking off when entering the spin cycle. Where do you start? Should you get a quote to have the Neptune repaired? Can you complete the repair yourself and save money? Should you purchase a new washer and dryer? How long will the washer be down? Etc…

Maytag Neptune washer bearing replacement

Let’s start with what a technician will quote you and why you will experience sticker shock. The quote to repair the bearings will run from $800 to $1,000 and the reason is that 99.4% of the repair techs will replace the large outer tub which runs about $500 alone plus labor and maybe a new spinner support in case yours is damaged. The truth is that you cannot tell if the spinner support shaft is damaged until you get in there but from my experience in most cases the spinner support is reusable. You can just replace the bearings and seal and get many more years of life from your Neptune front loader. There are a number of technicians using the Tony Tool to save Neptuner’s money so they won’t suggest that you replace the $500 outer tub.

I do recommend if you’re reading this and your bearings are still functioning that you proactively replace your Neptune bearings if your machine is 10 years old or more.

Maytag Neptune bearing kit

If you’re handy with tools you can replace your Neptune bearings without the special tool kit rental. There are a few things you need to know about how the bearings are installed in the machine. The front bearing is slightly larger than the rear bearing and there is a 1 ¾” pipe (bearing spacer) that is sandwiched between the bearings. When you remove the front tub seal you will see the front bearing and when you look at the front bearing’s ID you will see a tunnel because of the bearing spacer. Then you will see the rear bearing’s inner race where you have about 1/8” lip to grab onto to push or pull it out. The tool kit has a machined round nut that glides through the front bearing and spacer and will catch the rear bearing’s inner race and uses the leverage from the t handle to draw it out. Once the rear bearing comes out the spacer falls out, too.

Upon installation you install the rear bearing first using the tool. Next you place the bearing spacer on the PVC spacer holder and then start to draw the front bearing in. The tool kit makes this a breeze since it keeps the spacer centered while the front bearing is being drawn in and finally clamps the bearing spacer. If you don’t have the tool kit you have to come up with a way to hold the spacer when you install the bearings. So the tool kit rental saves you time and effort.

How to replace your Neptune bearings

The Neptune bearing tool kit rental includes bearings, 12002022 seal kit, a pair of snap ring pliers, 2” wire wheel, emery cloth, step by step DVD and an extra bearing spacer in case yours is cracked or corroded. Note: The earlier Neptune’s have a snap ring that you need to remove before pulling it. The wire wheel is to clean out the bearing housing after bearings are removed and the emery cloth is to smooth the front bearing seat in case of any ridges or ripples that may have developed due to the failed front bearing. The kit is shipped Priority Mail to you so you will receive it within 2 – 3 days typically. The http://www.neptunebearing.com/ site displays the estimated to ship days based on when tool kits return.

The Neptune 12002022 Seal kit

The 12002022 seal kit includes 2 seals. The earlier lip seal and the revised lip seal. You need to use the same one that you removed since they require different shaft machining. I have had some Neptuner’s decide to replace the spinner support so they could install the revised lip seal when their machine originally had the earlier lip seal but it is not necessary.

Maytag Neptune Washer MAH5500BWW bearings

I personally replaced the bearings and seal on a MAH5500BWW washer in 1.5 hours and it was my 2nd time of using the tool kit. I would also recommend having an 8 – 10 pound sledge hammer available when changing the bearings.

If you decide to use the to neptune bearing tool or go it alone you can get everything you will need at Neptune Bearing.

Until next time...

Beware if you get an egreeting!

I just received an email saying it is from 'egreetings.com' and the subject line reads 'You've received a greeting from a family member!'.

What ever you do don't click on the link!!! If you run your mouse over the link (but don't click!) You should see that it shows the link as'http://host.pekod.ru/postcard.exe' even though it displays 'http://www2.postcards.org/?a91-valets-cloud-31337'.

This is a common trick in emails such as phishing where they want you to think you are clicking an a familiar link but it is not what you think it is... If you click on this link it will actually execute the file named postcard.exe and who knows what it will install on your computer!

You should never ever click on an .exe file if you don't know exactly what it is. Do a search in Google on 'postcard.exe' and you will see that other sites have info on this file and what it can do to your machine.

As always, if you know anyone with a Maytag Neptune front loader please have them go to my http://www.neptunewaxmotor.com/ site for valuable information to help keep their washer in tip top shape and get more reliability out of their machine.

Until next time...
